What makes me tick

I have a passion for clean code, good typography and simple design solutions.

Originally a print and graphic designer, I developed a passion for web design whilst I working at a variety of agencies over the past 20 years. With skills in both print and web I have worked on many exciting projects that have included corporate identity, ad campaigns, catalogues, brochures and web design/development. In 2009 I took the leap into the freelance world, I’ve never looked back as I feel a sense of freedom, motivation and self-development I don't think I could have achieved working for a single agency.

With an eye for traditional print, layout and typography I apply those design foundations to web design and development, allowing me to offer a full portfolio of skills. All this is not only fuelled by a passion to create and improve but by a huge amount of milky tea and custard creams.

Away from the screen.

To keep myself fresh and motivated I feel it's important to take yourself away from the day to day work.

The need for speed

While watching motorsport is fun (F1, British Touring Cars and Rallycross mostly), taking part is better. I've been lucky enough to have the opportunity to compete in the RPM Honda ProExtreme Karting Championship as well as the British 24hr Karting Series. I do still take part in the odd open championship race now and again and I do hope I'll be able to compete on a more regular basis in the future.

Dance to the music

Music is an important motivator for me, in the early nineties a friend introduced me to vinyl, turntables and a mixer. I was hooked and had caught the DJ bug, I embraced it and never looked back. After spending a lot of time and money hunting for records and building a collection, two children and a lack of space to store all this vinyl has almost halted the collecting.

Learn by doing

Traditional techniques are also a huge interest to me, be it traditional letterpress printing, screen printing or bookbinding, if I have enough free time and can find a course, my wife and I will be there front row getting hands-on 'learning by doing'.

Out and about

Nothing beats getting outdoors and away from the screen. You all often find me walking with our kids at the local park and nature reserve, or dusting off the bikes ready to explore the cycle paths and trails around our local village.
